Introduction
People lived contentedly but were sometimes split by minor disagreements in Sangam, a little town. They disputed over water, geography, and personal issues. They resided in different sets and rejected working together rather than assisting each other.
Included among them was Grandfather Ramu, a venerable older man who had observed the power of unity throughout his years. He wished to give the people of the town a wise instruction.
Farmers charged merchants with food hoarding.
Traders pointed to farmers' failure to produce ample crops.
The villagers would not give one another resources.
The condition grew worse with every passing day. People became less inebriated, famine permeated the settlement.
The Wise Man’s Lesson
Grandfather Ramu gathered all the people next to the vision of this. Handing everyone a stick, he told them to snap it. Everyone could quickly break the stick in half.
He next tied ten sticks together and invited them to destroy it again. No one this time had to undo the package.
With a grin, he said,
" Alone, who can resist above a branch. But we're unbreakable together.”
The villagers at last realized they had been fighting instead of assisting.
The Power of Unity
Realizing their mistake, the villagers decided to work together:
✅ Farmers shared their stored grains.
✅ Traders ensured fair distribution of food.
✅ Villagers built a system to store rainwater for the future.
Slowly, life in Sangam improved. The river returned, the crops flourished, and the village thrived again.
From that day on, the villagers never let differences divide them. Whenever a problem arose, they reminded each other of Grandfather Ramu’s lesson:
"Unity is strength. Alone we may fall, but together we rise."
